Have you heard of BookBub? OMG I’m in love! I love reading. It’s my escape when life gets crazy and I need to unwind and de-stress!
I signed up a few weeks ago and every single day I get an email with book deals. most of the free or under $2. I’ve read a few books already and they pick very good books. Of course most of them are part of a series so you will want to actually buy the other books. But I needed to find some new authors I liked anyways! I’m almost out of Sabrina Jeffries books to read! I pretty much own every book the woman has wrote and she’s taking her sweet time with the next one! lol Doesn’t she know I’m impatiently waiting?
But If you are a bookworm like me I highly recommend signing up! there’s at least 3 free books a day to upload to your kindle reader. I downloaded the app for my iPad. I figure with our trip to Europe coming I’m going to need something to read on the long plane ride there!
Raising kids is fun, honestly if you don’t have any just go grab some random ones and watch how interesting your life gets! It only gets better as they get older… or so I’m finding out.
My poor son, at the tender age of 13. His phrase of late is how he is ‘stressed out’. Wow will the real world ever knock him on his butt one day! But he’s convinced this is the end all be all stress, and Tristan and I try not to laugh though some days it’s very hard.
There was the time he was stressed over girls. Yes i said GIRLS! He’s 13. I wanted to warn him this is just the tip of the ice berg with us women. But this particular day he was stressed because he had broken up with one girl. And then that girl liked another boy, but when that boy didn’t want to date her she wanted to date Adrian again. But he was talking to another girl. And the first girl started telling everyone him and the other girl were dating and that why he wouldn’t go out with her again…. I don’t remember this much drama in grade 7! Maybe because I’m a girl? Do boys have it harder then girls with drama in school? I’m sure I’ll find out in a few years when Shianne is 13 and her ‘stressed out’ phase starts. stay tuned for the results.
But poor Adrian. He had me almost in tears and almost dying of laughter this past weekend. I had asked his help in spraying off the pool cover… The bird have made it their missing to paint it with their crap. So I wanted to give them a clean canvas. So I told him just to spray it off. Nothing major, he didn’t have to Cinderella it and get on hands and knees and scrub it. Just lay it out and spray it with the hose.
I had gone inside to talk to Tristan on the phone and a while later Adrian came in. And he had this look on his face… as a mother my “Mom intuition” started tingling and I knew something was wrong. So I asked..
- Me: What’s wrong?
- Adrian: I’m stressed out!
- Me: Why are you stressed out?
Well the tears start and in a rush,
- Adrian: I can’t get the weed wacker to work and I’m trying to clean of the pool cover but the wind keeps blowing it over.
- Me: Why don’t you use bricks to hold it down? (I was trying very hard not to laugh. It didn’t help Tristan was laughing in my ear on the phone…)
- Adrian: I tried that, it’s not working! I’m so stressed out.
Poor child of mine. After I let him shed a few tears. I let him off the hook. I told him to go jump in the pool and de-stress!
I kind of worry though. If this is what he thinks stress is… what’s going to happen when he gets out into the real world?
I had a potluck at work a few weeks ago. I thought hey, I’ll bake up some home made buns for it my co-workers will love it! I tried this recipe out for the first time on them lol. I probably should have tried it on my family first, but I like to like on the wild side. The buns turned out A-mazing!! My only problem is we have multiple potlucks at work. And everyone only wants me to make the buns. At least these are super easy to make! only 6 Ingredients!
What I do that’s not in the instructions (I do it for most of my bread recipes if it’s not already warm in the house from me baking) I turn on the stove to 200 degrees and as soon as it’s warmed up I turn it off. By the time I have the dough for the bread is ready to sit and rise, the oven is the perfect temp for the bowl to sit in the oven and the bread dough rises quicker. (For a busy mom like me, the quicker I can get my baking done, the better!)
- 1 1/2 cups warm water
- 3/4 Tablespoon instant yeast (or 1 tablespoon active dry yeast)
- 2 Tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 Tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- In the bowl of a stand mixer or in a large bowl by hand, combine the warm water, yeast, sugar, oil, salt and 2 cups of the flour (if you are using active dry yeast instead of instant yeast, let the yeast proof in the warm water and sugar for about 3-5 minutes until it is foamy and bubbly before adding the oil, salt and flour). Begin mixing and continue to add the rest of the flour gradually until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. (You may not need to use all of the flour the recipe calls for) The dough should be soft and smooth but still slightly tacky to the touch.
- Knead dough in the stand mixer or by hand until it is very smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes in a stand mixer or 8-10 minutes by hand. Lightly spray a large bowl with cooking spray and place the dough in the bowl. Cover the bowl with lightly greased plastic wrap. Let the dough rise until it has doubled (about 45 minutes to an hour).
- Punch down dough and turn it out onto a lightly greased countertop. Divide the dough into 12 equal pieces and form the dough into round balls. Place the rolls on a lightly greased or silpat-lined baking sheet about an inch or two apart. Cover rolls with a kitchen towel or lightly greased plastic wrap. Let rolls rise until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 400° F. Bake for 12-14 minutes until lightly browned and cooked through. Remove from oven and immediately rub the tops of rolls with butter.
- Yields: 1 dozen
- **These rolls can be made into the most amazing sub rolls for sandwiches! Just combine two roll dough pieces together and shape into a log. Then bake according to directions above. Yields 6 sub rolls.
Of course I found this recipe on Pinterest (really where else do people get recipes these days?) Thanks to http://life-in-the-lofthouse.com/french-bread-rolls/ this recipe is a family favourite.
Has it really been 21 days since I posted? Ugh! Who knew Tristan moving home, me getting a job, and the kids starting soccer who cause so much ciaos?
My days kind of blur together. This past Friday I thought it was this upcoming Friday. I’m sure I will adjust eventually! I used to be busier then this when we lived in Edmonton, just at the moment I’m having trouble remembering how I survived that.
So far training at work is going well. I’m loving the people I work with! They are all quirky and have fun personalities. It makes me want to go to work. It’s the getting up and being out of the house by 7:35am that I dislike. I’m looking forward to working nights. No commute, and I don’t care what the weather is like at night lol!
Our Soccer schedule is pretty crazy it’s compacted into 3 days. Tuesday Shianne has practice at 6-7, Adrian had his game from 7-8:30. Of course practice and games are on opposite sides of the city. Shianne has her games on Wednesdays 6-7 and Adrian has his games Thursdays 7-8:30 Tuesdays and Wednesdays are the worst. I’m done work at 5. My drive from work to where the kids practice and play soccer is about 50-60minutes, without the stop at home to pick them up. It’s a very tight schedule. We make it barely on time, which drives me slightly crazy because I like being early for everything, But I think I’m dealing alright. (time will tell)
Tristan started his new job. He’s on a trip down to Texas, so far it’s going well from what I can tell anyways. It’s the same job he did before just a different company and less pay. But at least he will be home more often… hopefully it’s worth the trade off.
Hopefully it doesn’t take me another 21 days to post. I’ll try to get better!
This Momma went and got herself a J.O.B! It’s a pretty sweet deal. I have 3 months of training and once they feel I know everything I need to know then I’ll be working nights from home! 7 nights on 7 nights off. It’s a pretty sweet deal. So if you ever can’t sleep… chance are I will be awake!
But right now, I forgot how tiring it is to be a working mom! To get done work at 5 to drive 35-40 minutes to pick up the kids and get them to soccer for 6… I foresee the kids being a little late at times which will drive me crazy because I like being on time.
Other then feeling like I have no time to relax, but I actually really like this job. I might actually be a little sad to move to nights because everyone in the office is amazing to work with. They are super friendly… I get up actually wanting to go to work, which is a blessing in it’s self.
Tristan is on his way back to Alberta to finish off his final week at his Alberta job. Then he will be heading back home! No more flights back and forth! The kids start soccer this week. And my goal is to find some sort of balance!
Wish me luck!
It’s official, Tristan is getting a job in Ontario and moving home!
A LOT sooner then planned. But with cuts happening at his work, it just didn’t make sense for him to stay out there. I’m sure we are in for a bit of hard times because we don’t have the debt paid down like we wanted, but I’m sure we will figure it out one day at a time.
Does this mean my days as a Part- Time wife are over? Hell to the No! He’s still going to be a truck driver, if anything I’ll see him less now then before… just more often.
On to the next chapter!
It’s a stressful time around our house right now. We have so many things we are waiting to fall into place, it’s definitely exciting all the changes coming up!
I have my second interview today for a job I really, really, really, really want! so I have everything crossed and high hopes that I get it!
My diaper cakes are doing well. 2 sold this weekend. and I’ve worked out a consignment deal for the store that wants to sell a few in her store. So I need to make 3 cakes for that to start(a boy, a girl and a gender neutral). I’m also debating about signing up for some craft shows. The only thing holding me back is do I wait to see if I get this job I’m hoping for or do I just sign up and figure out a way around it if i get the job and my schedule falls on that weekend.
Tristan should be home this upcoming weekend. Yay! but it will be busy! He’s been applying to jobs in Ontario, So I believe we will be driving around to a few of those places on Friday to meet them in person. Oh to have him home again! One can dream! Either way it’s a pay cut him coming home but if I get this job and if the diaper cake thing starts to take off a bit more I’m sure we will be fine.
Things are crazy but everything is looking up!
